The box with the push button was
placed on a 1 mtr. high rectangular wooden column, painted white.
The push button was bought in a store. It had a make / break contact
(to a local relay), because it was vital to trigger the existing (fluorescent)
light immediately after pushing the button. When the make contact of the
button was reached, a relay would take over, inhibiting the existing light
from switching on again and restarting the process.
The break of the contact inhibited the system from re triggering, because
the break contact would be de-coupled for the duration of the cycle. |

The amplifier and speakers were taken
from my personal stereo set (80 watt RMS). The 8 track machine was preserved
for special occasions, because of it's possibilities for unattended operation.
The audio was coupled to light sources by means of 2 'light organs',
normally used in disco surroundings. The audio output could be silenced
to the amp./ speaker circuit, affecting only the light organs. The light
organs could also be inhibited by switching.
Sounds were taped before on an 8 track recorder and carefully timed
to synchronize the sound with the other events. The 8 track tape recorder
was specifically suitable because of it's preparation to operate unattended:
the tape is wound on one reel only, rolling up at the edge and peeling
out at the centre. The device could also be switched off through a small
metal sticker attached to the tape and on again via an external contact.
The loop was cut at a specific length to match the duration of the cycle. |
