Ten  sion (by tense)

Tension   The assignment 'tension by tense' was a particular challenge to me, because I wanted to make the 'literal' theme as important as the resulting form.

It had to be utterly simple and yet describing an intellectual linguistic formulation (of the theme).

After making some sketches I cut a diagonal stripe in a typical square dispenser type of note paper.

'TENSION' - metal plate, 125 x 125 cm - 1976

Note Paper
A quick sketch

A piece of cake   By cutting the stripe in two, an overlap could be made from the two halves of the stripe. This resulted in the desired tension, bending the plate with it's own material.

Of course it was quite easy to do this with the note paper first, after which the projection to the metal plate was a piece of cake really.
